A close up of a piece almost complete.

I was experimenting with a gloss photo paper and water color. I just wanted to see how the paint behaved on it. I could get some interesting effects and the paper can even tale a little scratching. I'm now just watching it to see it there are any changes in it over the years such as breakdown or lifting paint. I painted this about 5 years ago and so far it's held up.

Another water color on photo copy paper. I can really mess my hands up when I paint but I never leave the paint on my skin for very long, just a moment to hold my hand pressed down while I quickly and sloppily spread the paint around my fingers. I'm aware that some pigments are know to cause cancer so I alway read the labels.
Another water color on photo paper. I like how color can run or stay separated on the paper.

Water color on gloss photo paper. I like how it can take several washes and scratching dry layers of paint off to reveal the paint underneath.

Water color on gloss photo paper. I like how wet paint can be pulled like ink from a quill into the dry yellow paint.
Water color on gloss photo paper. This one is a bit lame, might work on it and change it because it can't go on like this.

I like the old paint and rust and old hardware.
rust under paint
Old paint rusting off the wagon wheel.
old rust falling apart.
I love old rust and I found this steel cable with a wire extending from it's center. It was on the north shore of the Queen Charlotte Islands.

Both of these paintings are of mixed media on board.  The top one is 14''x181/2''.  in it's frame which is not in this photo.  The inspiration for this painting came from within me somewhere.  It is another painting that I just start and it takes it's form as I work on it.  I start to feel something from the painting as it progresses.  I say feel instead of seeing because the image portrays a memory of a feeling of something I've seen.  I don't paint the image from the memory, I paint the feeling from the memory.  The bottom painting was created in the same manner, painting a feeling from a memory.  This one is 17''x15'' and is unframed.  Aren't you dying to know what the feelings are in these two paintings?

My third last painting for 2009. I painted this from a photo that I took as we drove through the mountains in Alberta.
Blue Moon. Painted on wide edge canvas with mica. Owned by Lynn.
My second last painting for 2009. It is a scene of Tow Hill, looking West on North Beach when the tide is out. Haida Gwaii. I have, since posting this, added two people crabbing to give Tow Hill it's sense of size because it is really huge.
My last painting for 2009. A scene from Gregory beach, Haida Gwaii. Owned in a private collection.
